Modern agriculture: More, with less

Think "big ag" is destroying our environment? The graphic above reveals just how much more farmers and ranchers are doing with less.

While farm and ranch productivity has increased dramatically since 1950, the use of resources such as labor, seeds, feed, and fertilizer required for production has declined substantially.

Total U.S. crop yield in tons per acre, as increase by more than 360 percent since 1950.

Land use for crops has declined by 70 million acres since 1982.
