Recent figures from the Center for Disease Control show that our food is getting safer. Dr. Richard Raymond, a former Undersecretary for Food Safety at the Agriculture Department, told American Farm Bureau Federation's Newsline he’s puzzled why they’re so cautious about spreading this good news.

Casselton teacher wins national award

Mary Kensok, a fourth grade teacher at Central Cass Elementary in Casselton, has been awarded the “Excellence in Teaching about Agriculture” award. The award is given to five educators annually at the National Agriculture in the Classroom Conference. Kensok will be honored at the conference in Minneapolis in June.

Continuing resolution approved

The Senate on Wednesday passed a continuing resolution to keep the government open beyond March 27, when the current continuing resolution expires. The newest CR would fund the government through Sept. 30, 2013, the end of fiscal 2013.

Adequate land ranks as top concern of young farmers

WASHINGTON, D.C., — Securing adequate land to grow crops and raise livestock was the top challenge identified in the latest survey of participants in the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers & Ranchers program. That challenge was identified by 20 percent of respondents, followed by burdensome government regulations and “red tape,” which was identified by 15 percent of the young farmers and ranchers responding.
