When I think of sausage, I generally think of pork, seasoned and spiced to perfection. I usually buy the ground version prepared in the grocery store. But when I saw this Basic Country Beef Breakfast Sausage recipe from the good folks at BeefItsWhatsForDinner.com and it just had beef, I felt compelled to share it. I am a little ashamed to admit it, but I never really knew WHAT spices made sausage so yummy until I was today years old. Hey, old dog learns new trick! That's not all bad!
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef, 96% lean
2 tsp. chopped fresh sage or 1/2 tsp. rubbed sage
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. onion powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 to 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
Instructions:
Combine ground beef and seasonings in large bowl, mixing lightly but thoroughly. Heat large nonstick skillet on medium heat until hot. Add sausage mixture. Cook 8-10 minutes, breaking into 1/2-inch crumbles and stir occasionally.
(Also makes four 1/2 inch thick patties.)
