June is Dairy Month! Today, June 1, is also World Milk Day. According to the World Milk Day website, "In 2001, World Milk Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations to recognize the importance of milk as a global food, and to celebrate the dairy sector. Each year since, the benefits of milk and dairy products have been actively promoted around the world, including how dairy supports the livelihoods of one billion people."
Being a dairy farmer is not an easy job, but it's a job they take very seriously. According to the N.D. Department of Agriculture's web site, there are currently 55 dairy farms across the state. Get to know a dairy farmer. Tell them thank you for providing us all with nutirioua, delicious milk, ice cream, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, cottage cheese, and oh, did we mention ice cream? ;)
