Food as a problem solver

Food as a problem solver

by Carie Moore

It’s crazy how food seems to solve all our problems. We get families together at holidays around the table, whether we all get along or not. If someone's mad at you, you take them out for coffee and sweets and talk things through. When you don't know what to do on a Friday night with your friends you all meet at the local hotspot for appetizers. When someone has had a baby, or is sick, or is grieving a loss, we bring a hot dish or casserole and some goodies.

Commodities that are turned into food are what tie nations together due to imports and exports.

Food is not only something that nourishes our body but nourishes our brains and our emotions.

You tell someone there's a food shortage and they go into crisis mode. When there's a storm coming, we stock up on food.

It's so important that we value our food sources, not pick them apart. All farmers grow their food to feed someone. We buy and cook our food to feed people.

It’s always a little hurtful when you put time and effort into making a green bean casserole and someone complains that you used cream of mushroom soup instead of cream of celery soup. Don't bite the hand that feeds you. Every person has their own internal battles they fight that we know nothing about sometimes.

Treat whoever cooks your food with respect, as well as those who grow it. It's been a tough year for many, and some will not be here next year; which means less farms and people to grow your food. It might even be the person who made your favorite sugar cookies that is no longer with you.
