Gettin' corny with Carie

Did you know that when you eat corn, you are actually eating the seed of the plant? There are different types of corn and the type you typcially see growing in North Dakota is field corn. Warning: It doesn't taste very good at all! Field corn is used in a variety of products including vitamins, fuels, and in the production of plastics. But we don't eat it. Sweet corn is the corn we enjoy at our tables.

Check out this video Carie Moore did for On Your Table last year to help explain a few things about corn.

Here are a few bonus facts about that movie-going favorite, popcorn: A bushel of popcorn contains nearly 73,000 kernels of corn. One bushel of popcorn would fill at least two bathtubs, and then some. Think of all the movies you could binge with that amount of popcorn!
