As long as I can remember I’ve been declaring that there are things that I’ll never do and as long as I can remember, I have been proving myself wrong.
Growing up I was never going to live in North Dakota, not in a millions years. It’s flat. It’s boring. It’s cold. After a brief stint across the country, I quickly realized North Dakota is kind. It’s diverse. It’s home.
I also said I’d never be a telemarketer. Then I found out what telemarketing paid compared to other college-age jobs, and I found myself working at a telemarketing firm for almost 5 years.
I said I’d never get married or have children. As a kid almost all marriages I knew of ended poorly or one party died prematurely. As far as kids went, the world is already overpopulated. Fast forward to present day, I’m married 15 years to Hubby and we have the two best decisions we ever made: Miss E and Miss A.
Hubby and I looked for a farm for 10 years. All we wanted was to live in the country. We said we’d never be yuppie town people. Green acres and blue skies, that’s for us.
Well we sold the farm. We officially became town people again and I must say: we don’t hate it. We love our house. We love our neighborhood. We love that our children will grow up with friends down the street, a park behind the house, and they ride the bus for 10 minutes instead of over an hour.
Never in 100 guesses would I have guessed where we’d be right now. Neither Hubby or I would have guessed here, and that’s the exciting part of life. Sometimes when you choose the things you never thought you’d do, you make the best stories, and what’s life if not a string of stories. You decide how interesting they are.
