Okay, I need to know: who decided May is the time for ALL THE THINGS? I mean, I work in agriculture, so “normally” planting is getting into full swing. It’s my busiest time at work, and I’m not even talking about that.
May usually marks when winter has mercifully left for the year and summer-like days are starting to appear, so there’s always a May hustle and bustle of cleaning the yard, getting the snow equipment put away and the yard equipment out of hibernation. But I’m also a mom of school-age children, and I’ve gotta question with the schedulers of the activities: Are you nuts????
We have spring concerts, band concerts, end-of-year dinner/banquets, recitals, baseball, softball, soccer, field trips, field days, and a partridge in a pear tree. I mean, how in the holy schoolhouse rock is a mere mortal mom supposed to keep up with it all? I’ve got calendars on my wall, in my phone, and I still don’t know where I’m going from one day to another.
Then there’s the extras: “Mom, I need to take a lunch tomorrow,” “Mom I need $2 for a fundraiser,” “Mom it’s wear purple-pterodactyl-pants day today,” or Hubby “Mom, who am I picking up tonight/where?”
It’s a lot. There’s a lot and it’s all mixed in with that crazy more-light-in-the-day/do we need to go to bed when the sun is still up/pre-summer excitement.
My advice? Stock up on lunchables for the kids, crockpot meals for the family, and vodka for me. I know March is usually about coming in like a lion and going out like a lamb but May is just a cyclone of crazy. We’ll see you on the other side!!
