Who doesn't L.O.V.E. pizza? Okay, full disclosure, my dad always said he thought it tasted like cardboard. We thought he was crazy. When I was a kid, a frozen pizza was such a treat! That was a long time ago, of course, and frozen pizza is now more of a staple than a treat. Nevertheless, pizza is our favorite food in these United States of America.
Did you know that we consume more than 3 billion (yes, with a B) pizzas each year? The average U.S. family eats pizza at home 30 times each year. And that doesn't include the times we go to a restaurant and order those mouthwatering disks of tastiness!
At the heart of our national obsession is a bunch of farmers working every day to make sure you have all the pizza you can handle. From the pizza crust (thank you wheat farmers) to the mozzarella cheese (thank you dairy farmers), it all starts on a farm. Watch this video to meet some of the farmers behind your pizza!
And happy National Pizza Party Day! (Always the third Friday in May.) Celebrate with your family by enjoying a pizza today, and thank a farmer!
