Have you considered signing up for our monthly newsletter that highlights some of our posts from the last month? It usually comes out on the last day of the month. This month, we sent the "March highlights" out today, April Fool's Day, for no other reason than to capitalize on the No foolin' headline that is probably much more overused on this day than any other, but as we like to say in the content trenches, "It is, what it is" (Actually, that's a joke.)
Anyway, for those of you who have been on the fence about subscribing to our monthly newsletter, here, in all it's glory, is the one we sent earlier today:
Subject line: We're not fooling at On Your Table ❄️
Hi Dawn,
Happy April Fool's Day! April showers are supposed to bring May flowers. Since we will probably have snow all through the rest of this week -- no joke -- I'm wondering: Do April snows bring May woes? (I'm a poet and a bad one, at that! 🤣) I hope not, because the weather in March has been a roller coaster, and I am ready for sunshine, a few gentle rain showers, and lots of green popping up everywhere!
Speaking of roller coasters, March was a roller coaster of activity (a little wild, a little thrilling), but it also kept me decidedly distracted by all the Farm Bureau content for NDFB Week and beyond. We enjoyed an amazing Farm Safety Starts with Me poster contest for 4th and 5th grade students, a number of awesome county Farm Bureau events that included free burgers and meat bundle giveaways, coloring and drawing contests, trivia contests, and a lot of free coffee, bless their hearts!
We are also working on a new format for our recipe section, which we hope to have operational soon, so we're very excited about that. And we'd like to share that we are welcoming a new blogger, Esther Donahue! We're excited for her first post, which will be coming on April 10. Look for her posts monthly as well.
But getting back to what you may have missed in March...

Chickens as the gateway livestock "drug." Once you're hooked, you just can't stop! Kelli Bowen shares her family's chicken obsession in this post.

Is it cake, or is it a pie? Kelli says "Pi" particularly for Pi Day. Get her recipe for this delicious pie, cake, or better yet, delectable dessert!

Bulk prepping for meals can be a real lifesaver and reduce the stress of what to have for supper. Sam Vangsness shares her tips and a tasty Street Corn Dip recipe.

We asked a registered dietitian what she thinks of the calcium from algae angle, so she looked into it and shared what she found out. Read more here.

And if you are following garden influencers, just be sure the information they provide is science-backed. North Dakota has extension agents across the state who can give you the details on a variety of gardening questions and concerns.
We hope you have a wonderful April filled with robins, new growth, and all the spring things, even though we might have to slog through a little bit more winter. 🌨
We'll catch you again in May! 🌷
So there you have it. It's an easy read, where you catch up on the highlights. Subscribe to the newsletter at the bottom of this page (the little subscribe button in the footer.)
And check out regularly for more tips, recipes, and maybe even ask our farmers and ranchers a question if you have one by emailing onyourtable@ndfb.org.
