Now that we are town folk, there are a few adaptations we’ve had to meet. Most involve nudity and animals…wait…no that’s pretty accurate.
On the farm we had a few dogs, a half dozen cats, chickens, random poultry and now our menagerie is down to just the two dogs.
Hubby is firm in two pet rules: #1 no indoor cats and #2 no rodents.
I remember as kids, my sister had a fishbowl and then a fish tank. She also had a bird. I stuck to the small and furry pets, dabbling in Guinea pigs and a hamster (until my cat ate it). We had a family rule that we couldn’t have rats or reptiles. Miss E asked about rodents, but I referred her to Dad’s Pet Rule #2.
Miss E has a bleeding heart for all things critter, so she has come up with her newest pet idea: fish.
Now about a year ago we ventured into the land of fish with Blueberry the Betta. She (?) promptly died about four days in. After the appropriate mourning period, we are trying this again.
Miss E and I went down to the local pet supply store and procured the equipment and the food. We are going to get everything set up, tested and then this weekend (or whenever the next trip to town happens) we shall get some fish.
After $80 in supplies, toys, food and fish, and sternly reprimanding the children not to lose parts in the box before aquarium setup, we should be able to start the “How Long Before A Fish Dies” pool. Winner gets 50% of the proceeds and the other half goes to getting Blueberry #3, #4, #5, and #6…after the appropriate mourning period.
Hooray for pets!
