Sharing the love on Friday the 13th

Sharing the love on Friday the 13th

by Elizabeth Magee, LRD

Feeling lucky in love or too superstitious to think about “love” day? You’re in luck, I have a fix for both!! Love and luck pair well, and who’s not looking for a reason to find some healthy snacks? Food is always on my mind. Nothing fancy here, nothing to be skeptical about.

With February being Heart Month, it’s a great reminder to get in those foods we need for heart health.

  • Fruits and Veggies
  • Liquid plant oils instead of tropical oils
  • Whole grains
  • Lean proteins

But, if you’re looking for a boost to avoid any bad luck, try these:

  • Pack in some Vitamin C and an antioxidant boost with strawberries
  • Lycopene in tomatoes will help your ticker stay healthy
  • Red Pepper for some fiber and Vitamin A
  • Red Apples (or any apples) – because, well an apple a day…

Those of you stressed about Friday being unlucky, here are some foods to support some calm, steady energy and keep all the fear away

  • Magnesium – if you aren’t on the bandwagon yet, you should be – important for so many things, but especially sleep and calmness
  • Bananas for some Potassium, which can help with stress responses
  • Avocados – healthy fats for your brain (and your heart)
  • Tea – Chamomile is another thing that can help with sleep and stress

Maybe you’ve been meaning to try some of these. I know Magnesium and Chamomile have helped me with my sleep; it’s the perfect opportunity! If you’re looking for a quick appetizer or snack to serve, throw some strawberries and blackberries in a bowl, or on a skewer and have some dark chocolate on the side or drizzle right on top!

Spread the love and keep your mind calm this weekend!
