The whole family: Hubby, Miss E, Miss A, and I have all been on the west side of the state, officially, for three weeks. Do you know what that calls for??? Visitors.
Our first visitors came to visit, as they do, my youngest sister and her husband. We had a plan: shopping, the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, the Medora Musical, and Pitchfork Steak Fondue.
Two days before they were to arrive, the thermometer was in the 90s and it was hot. If you happened to read my last blog, you’ll know we don’t have the best luck.
Fast forward to when they arrived! Hooray they’re here! We go to take a trip through the national park and the weirdest thing: not an animal along the road: not one. My brother-in-law pointed out my sister is cursed.
As we drive through the park, we saw some great scenery but no critters and then poof-downpour. The sky opened up rained like it was its job. We hydroplaned back to the house and had a few drinks at the house before calling it a night.
After raining all night and into the morning, there’s some shopping done and then that evening we headed to the pitchfork steak fondue.
The steak fondue is when steaks are put on the tines of a pitchfork and then cooked in hot oil, served with a baked potato bar served with lemonade and a dessert.
It was 49 degrees so even though it was cold and rainy, the food was good and the music delightful. Then we headed to the house for layers and blankets.
As we made it back to the amphitheater wearing stocking caps and carrying blankets, we waited for the house to open. Twenty minutes before the show, we walked around the gift shop searching our favorite shopping prey: sweatshirts.
Then the announcement: the show is canceled. It was 40-something degrees and actively raining so we ran back to the car laughing and piled in to head back to the house, secretly relieved, and reserved ourselves to go home and setup and play Ring Game/Ring on a String that was purchased at Cowboy Lyle’s Candy Store and talk about the trip that could have been.
So fun fact: Sister and Brother-in-law are going to come back later in the summer, and even though it wasn’t the trip we planned for, we still had a dang good time! Let’s see how the next visitor’s trip goes…even when things don’t go as planned, it’s impossible to have a bad trip to Medora. Ooooo! Ice cream!
