From the outside, farming and ranching might look pretty easy. In fact, it was President Dwight Eisenhower that said, in 1956, “Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil, and you’re a thousand miles from the corn field.” But it isn't easy. Farmers are price takers, not price makers. And expenses keep climbing. (Anhydrous prices are at record highs.) As independent business owners, farmers have to have somewhere to turn.
