Win or loose

Win or loose

by Kelli Bowen

It’s snow day number 1,648 and now is the time people…it is time to eat our feelings. Put away childish things, like diets and sobriety, and let’s find some snacks.

First off: we are in the 107th day, okay maybe fifth (?) day, of “virtual learning” for our school. Where I live, we get a packet of worksheets. This supposedly replaces an entire day of taxpayer-funded-education. I’m not sure where the “virtual” comes in since neither child is required to do anything virtually…at all. There’s no login, no synching, no real-time communication, nothing, just fill out the worksheets and the Bingo cards. Oh the Bingo cards!

My children have a physical education Bingo card and one of the squares instructs the child on what to do if you win or “loose” at rock-paper-scissors. Yes. “Loose.” Every child in elementary school has been sent this Bingo card from the educational institution, with this typo…five times in a row so far and counting.

If that isn’t enough to make you want to forget it all in a bucket of French fries, I don’t know what will.

But seriously, one of the only things I look forward to are the social media pics of what people bake on their snow day: soups, bread, bars, all of it.

I myself have been known to thaw out some bread dough or start throwing some scratch ingredients together to make something comforting in these days of uncomforting weather.

No matter what you do and how you choose to spend your winter storm day, just remember, winter will have to end soon, otherwise we all may just loose it. Also if you aren’t much for baking just stick with potatoes…pouring them from bottles…I’m talking vodka.
