April 19: Earth Day is this Friday, April 22 and NDFB President Daryl Lies says incorporating modern farming practices into how we grow and raise our food has led to healthier, more productive animals and reduced environmental impact overall. A few Earth Day facts:
Stewardship by farmers has spurred a 44 decline in erosion of cropland by wind and water since 1982.
Even while less land is being used for crop and livestock production, U.S. crop yields have increased by more than 360 percent since 1950. In addition, the pounds of feed a dairy cow needs to consume to produce 100 pounds of milk has decreased by more than 40 percent in the last 30 years.
