Today's amazing farms
An editorial by Stewart Truelsen - What a difference the right adjective makes. Put the modifier “family” in front of “farm” and the words mean more than just a farm that is family owned-and-operated. “Family farm” evokes warm, nostalgic feelings with farmers and non-farmers alike. You can just picture yourself as a child running across a farmyard to a big white house because mother is ringing the dinner bell.

Delegates urge congressional oversight of EPA
Asserting that the Environmental Protection Agency is “implementing an aggressive regulatory program that burdens the nation’s farmers and ranchers,” delegates at the American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting urged Congress to “pursue vigorous oversight” of the agency.

The Big Freeze
A group of North Dakotans headed to Atlanta, Georgia, for the 92nd American Farm Bureau Federation annual meeting last week. Some of them are still trying to make it home due to the big freeze that hit the area on Sunday morning and pretty much closed down the city.

NDFB Legislature underway, Congress starts tomorrow
The North Dakota Legislature is underway today. The 112th Congress debuts tomorrow. While North Dakota legislators will undoubtedly debate road repair and flood control, Congress has more than 90 new members of the House and a dozen freshman senators.

The Farm/Ranch Families Work deadline is tomorrow!
The deadline to enter AFBF’s “Farm/Ranch Families Work” video contest is Wednesday, Dec. 29. The contest was announced Dec. 7, as a way for farm and ranch families to showcase some of the tough jobs they perform in the process of providing food and fiber for their fellow Americans.

North Dakota population increases
BISMARCK, ND – The United States Census Bureau released the agency’s 2010 decennial count of population for the nation and each state. The actual count, which took place early in 2010, shows the population as of April 1, 2010. The results show North Dakota’s population grew by 30,391 people over the April 1, 2000 population count of 642,200. The new 2010 official state population is 672,591.
