On an early Monday morning, following the Fourth of July weekend, a coworker and I made our way to the southwest part of North Dakota. The sun was crisp, the wind was calm and it was the perfect July day. Our plan was to interview two young entrepreneurs who are part of NDFB’s Farmhouse Treasures for You, an NDFB member-to-member marketing booklet. But as I drove away from their farm that day, my focus shifted to the day’s experience and the lifestyle of this beautiful family.

Roughly thirty minutes from the nearest town and three miles from the nearest neighbor, we pulled into the farmyard. A long row of petrified wood surrounds the old farmhouse that provides a welcoming covered front porch. The dogs approached to say hello. The sounds of chickens could be heard along with birds and crickets. The soothing silence is often unknown to most people.
