Political correctness has no place in this week's Dialogue with Daryl, so if you don't want to hear Merry Christmas, don't listen (or read the transcript!)

Warning! Political correctness stops here. You know, we’re in that time of year, that season that seems to bring a lot of debate about how you should greet someone.

And we at NDFB, we have very firm set of beliefs that lead us in a direction of making sure people understand who we are as an organization, what we believe in and how we advocate for those beliefs and principles.

Our very first belief states, and I quote, “America’s unparalleled progress is based on freedom and dignity of the individual, sustained by basic moral and religious concepts,” unquote.

Well, you’re not going to hear us take the soft approach so that we don’t offend someone, which I don’t understand why, if someone doesn’t have the same belief as me, but I greet people in the way that is my belief, why it would be offensive to them? Because I’m not expecting them to greet people when they see them, in that way. So why do I have to feel like society is forcing me to change the way I approach people and the way that I greet people whether it’s my personal life or as in official business as president of NDFB.

So to political correctness I say, you’ve created more problems than you’ve helped in our country. When you choose to say something, that’s your right. But there’s a certain amount of responsibility that comes with what you choose to say. And if you’re saying it for an organization, as I have the great opportunity to do, you say it based on those beliefs and principles and the policy set forth by your members.

We start every meeting out with the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer, and so this season we’re going to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We aren’t going to dance around the issue, that this is the time of the year, with our philosophical beliefs, that our Savior was born, and there is Christ in Christmas. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year, from all of us, at NDFB.
