Discussion Meet winner announced
Rocky Brown of Wishek is the 2016 North Dakota Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Discussion Meet winner. Brown was chosen following three rounds of competition at the NDFB Farm and Ranch Conference, Jan. 29- 31 in Minot. As the winner, he received a Polaris four-wheeler and will represent North Dakota at the national Discussion Meet, which will be held in Phoenix, Arizona in January of 2017.
“I had a great time hearing the opinions of other Farm Bureau members from across the state on the issues that were presented to us,” Brown said. “Learning the policies and history for both the state and national Farm Bureaus will be interesting and a challenge I look forward to.”
The finalists for the Discussion Meet were chosen based on two judged 15-minute preliminary discussions. Four individuals from the first two rounds were chosen to compete in the final round.
The YF&R Discussion Meet competition is open to farmers and ranchers between the ages of 18 and 35, and is designed to simulate a committee meeting in which individuals discuss issues and surface solutions to those issues.
Brown and his wife, Kelly, have three children. Brown is a former ag education teacher and FFA advisor and currently works in the family business selling fencing and livestock supplies. The Browns also have a ranch where they raise cattle and horses.
