Susan Hart, a junior at North Dakota State University, won the NDFB Collegiate Farm Bureau Discussion Meet held November 19, 2020 in Bismarck.
Agriculture’s strength depends on producers’ ability to analyze problems and decide on solutions that best meet their needs. These skills are part of the NDFB Collegiate Discussion Meet. By participating, individuals build basic discussion skills, develop a keen understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach a consensus and solve problems.
Hart was one of four contestants competing in the meet. The other contestant from NDSU was Sydney Harris. The two contestants from Dickinson State University Collegiate Farm Bureau were Kon Speelmon and Trey Fischbach.
Hart is from Parkers Prairie, Minn., and is majoring in crop and weed science. She works part-time for the Wheat Genetics and Cytology project, where she is the undergraduate research lead.
“My upbringing is where my passion for agriculture comes from,” said Hart.
She grew up on her family's hobby farm where they primarily focus on raising goats for meat production.
“I believe the discussion meet provides an opportunity to have civil conversations about critical ag issues and policies and in return may provide solutions,” said Hart.

Hart will compete at the American Farm Bureau Collegiate Farm Bureau Discussion Meet during the AFBF 2021 Young Farmer and Rancher Leadership Conference.
