It can all change in the blink of an eye

“I’m too busy.” It’s a common phrase we say in the agricultural industry. Unfortunately, with busy comes exhaustion. In the shuffle of harvest, we need to be extra aware of our surroundings, whether it is backing up a piece of equipment, driving home late at night or handling livestock. What seems like second nature can put farmers and ranchers in danger when the brain isn’t working at full capacity.

Unfortunately, I know this all too well. This past March my dad (Robert Nord) was involved in a farm accident. If you know my dad personally, you know he is one of the most cautious and safe humans there is. When you receive a neon safety vest for Christmas from him, it’s not a white elephant gift. He means it in the most sincere way to be safe.

Late nights during calving season can seem so mundane, doing the same thing for months in a row. But in the blink of an eye everything can change...
