June is Dairy Month
In honor of June Dairy Month, and the dairy farmers who work so hard to keep dairy products on our tables, we have compiled dairy facts from the Midwest Dairy Association website.
Milk is an excellent source of 9 essential nutrients: calcium, potassium, phosphorus, protein, vitamins A, D and B12, riboflavin and niacin (niacin equivalents). Because of its unique nutrient package of 9 essential nutrients, milk delivers superior nutritional value.
It takes 10 pounds of milk to make one pound of cheese. Cheese packs a lot of calcium, phosphorus and protein in every bite. In fact, it takes only 1 ½ ounces of cheese to meet one of your three recommended daily calcium servings.
Children who drink milk at home and with school meals have a better nutrition profile than those who do not.
Dairy farmers across the United States follow industry accepted best management practices to ensure that their dairy cows are healthy and well cared for, that the environment on and around their farms is protected, and that the milk they produce is safe and of high quality. Thank you, dairy farmers, for all your hard work. We appreciate you!
