Kidder County Farm Bureau has been holding a spring safety day for students in the county since….well, actually, no one is quite sure.

Kidder County Farm Bureau secretary Sara Falk thinks it has been 14 or 15 years.

She says the county Farm Bureau started the safety day, then after a few years, decided to work with the Progressive Ag Safety Day program, a program of the Progressive Agriculture Foundation.

This year, 95 students in grades 4-6 had an opportunity to learn about power-take-offs, food safety, fire safety and much more. They even held a session on bullying this year.

Although Sarah isn’t sure how many students have learned about safety since they started those 14 or 15 years ago, she says she often notices an attitude change in the students who have attended the safety day.

“They might complain about coming, but they are always excited after they’ve been here,” she smiles. In fact, she says some of the students have gone home and corrected their parents when they aren’t being safe.

“We figure if we can save a finger, we’re happy,” she says.
