It’s July and summer is in full swing! Cows are at pasture, crops are growing, and flowers are looking beautiful. July is that month where a lot happens: Family vacations, fairs, grill outs, baseball games, bonfires and most importantly, Independence Day. I grew up celebrating the 4th of July more than any other holiday. 

Our local town of 100 (or less) always had a beautiful Independence Day celebration. As children, we learned to respect the flag and those who fought so hard to keep her standing. Cleaning up cemeteries, planting flowers, learning how to properly fold the flag, along with a history lesson on how we became the United States of America. The story of America’s independence is truly fascinating. We can’t fully appreciate our freedoms if we don’t know how we got them. It’s easy to go day-to-day and not truly appreciate the life we have now, compared to the time prior to 1776, but on the 4th of July we can.
