S.D.'s Rep. Noem shares personal death tax story
Created: 12/11/12 (Tue) | Topic: Issues
The $1 million estate tax exemption and 55 percent top tax rate set to go into effect on Jan. 1 will be devastating to South Dakota, a state that runs on small businesses and family farms, like the one Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) grew up on.
“When my father died unexpectedly in an accident on our farm, we were hit with the death tax and made the decision to take out a loan so that we didn’t have to sell land,” Noem wrote in her weekly column. “No family should have to make the decision we were forced to make. That is why I continue to advocate for the permanent repeal of the death tax.”
