Tax Freedom Day is April 21, three days later than last year, according to the Tax Foundation, a tax policy research organization.
According to the new information that was just published by the organization, "Tax Freedom Day is the day when the nation as a whole has earned enough money to pays its total tax bill for a year."
The organization also posted state tax freedom days, which is when the residents of each state have worked long enough to pay all tax obligations at the federal, state and local level. North Dakota's Tax Freedom Day is April 25. South Dakota's is April 4.
According to the organization, Americans will spend more in taxes in 2014 than they will on food, clothing and housing combined.
