Thousands respond to EPA spray drift proposal
The Environmental Protection Agency has received more than 30,000 comments opposing its proposed ban on pesticide spray drift. EPA recently completed a comment period for the spray drift ban.
Tyler Wegmeyer, AFBF’s pesticide specialist, said farmers are making their voices heard on the proposed new labeling restrictions to ban any drifting of spray. Wegmeyer said the EPA proposal is unworkable and unfair. He argues farmers will be fined or sued “if any spray drift happens.”
Rep. Dan Burton (R-Ind.) said the regulations will drive the cost of food through the roof, and he plans to fight it. He called the EPA proposal, “the dumbest thing he’s ever heard.”
