What happens on the farm when spring is late?

Spring is a crazy time of the year for farmers and ranchers. Though it looks like January, we are indeed in the month of April.

There are folks in the commercial and registered cow-calf business that calve in the months of January, February, and March and are set up to deal with the challenges of freezing temperatures.

At the Estenson ranch, we are calving now. The colder-than-normal temperatures have made for a much more intensively managed calving season than we are accustomed to.
