YF&R Cultivation Award winner named
Terry Entzminger of Entzminger Dairy near Jamestown was named the 2010 Cultivation Award winner during the North Dakota Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Challenge, held at the YF&R Leadership Conference in Minot, January 29-31.
The Cultivation Award is designed to honor individuals and families who have made significant contributions to the agriculture industry and who serve as advocates for agriculture.
“What an amazing group of people up for the award,” Entzminger reflected. “Every one of them deserved the honors. I truly didn’t expect to be the overall winner after listening to them during the panel discussion.”
Entzminger, however, has been an incredibly positive force for the dairy industry. He was instrumental in not only improving the quality of milk in schools, but was part of the board that got resealable milk containers part of the menu at fast food restaurants. He also hosted tours of the family’s dairy facility for more than 500 children over the summer.
“He truly is a positive voice not only for the dairy industry, but for agriculture as a whole,” said NDFB YF&R Chairman Lucas Lang of Sterling.
Other finalists in the competition were Curt and Suzy Lee of Velva, Carl and Julie Peterson of Harwood, Nick and Jacinta Schmaltz of Towner and Ken Votava of Sharon.
Each of the finalists received an all-expense paid trip to participate in the panel discussion at the YF&R Leadership Conference, where they were judged on their contributions to agriculture as well as their communications skills.
As the winner, Entzminger will receive a generous prize package, along with an all expense paid trip to one of the following:
- American Farm Bureau Federation Annual Meeting, Atlanta, Georgia next January
- American Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Leadership Conference, Orlando, Florida next February
