Alisha Nord of Fargo is the 2015 North Dakota Farm Bureau Young Farmer and Rancher Discussion Meet winner. Nord was chosen following three rounds of competition at the NDFB Farm and Ranch Conference, Jan. 30- Feb. 1 in Bismarck.

“I wish more conferences had events like this because you really do have to do research and think of how you are going to present your ideas,” Nord said.

As the winner, she received a Polaris four-wheeler from R&B Motorsports of Jamestown, and will represent North Dakota at the national Discussion Meet, which will be held in Orlando, Florida in January of 2016.

“We had an excellent slate of competitors this year,” said NDFB Young Farmer and Rancher chairman Travis Dagman. “We were very encouraged to see the level of professionalism all the contests displayed, and we look forward to having Alisha represent our state in the national competition.”

The finalists for the Discussion Meet were chosen based on two judged 15-minute preliminary discussions. Four individuals from the first two rounds were chosen to compete in the final round.

The YF&R Discussion Meet competition is open to farmers and ranchers between the ages of 18 and 35, and is designed to simulate a committee meeting in which individuals discuss issues and surface solutions to those issues.

Nord is a Wolverton, Minn., native, growing up on a fourth generation farm that raises corn, soybeans and sugar beets. The family also raises registered Black Angus cattle and shows extensively throughout the country.

She currently works at North Dakota State University for the Ag Experiment Station doing public relations and marketing for researchers on campus and at research centers throughout western North Dakota.
