Claire Zumbach, a student at Dickinson State University, won the NDFB Collegiate Farm Bureau Discussion Meet, held during the 79th NDFB Annual Meeting at the Holiday Inn, Fargo, Nov. 19-21.

Zumbach was one of four contestants competing in the meet. The other contestant from DSU was Trey Fischbach. Two contestants from North Dakota State University Collegiate Farm Bureau were Joy Dahlen and Brooklyn Vollmer.

Zumbach was raised on a dairy farm in northern New York. Her parents are Brian and Amy Zumbach. She says she got involved in DSU Collegiate Farm Bureau because she wanted to promote an industry she knows and loves.

“Claire has been an active member of the DSU Collegiate Farm Bureau for several years now,” said DSU Collegiate Farm Bureau advisor Haley Robison. “Her background in the dairy industry and being from New York brings a different perspective to the group. She's a very hard working and dedicated leader. She will do a great job representing North Dakota at the national contest!"

The Discussion Meet helps participants develop their ability to generate meaningful discussion in a committee-like setting. The topic students discussed was how Farm Bureau can support easing government regulations in the wake of COVID to ensure long-term economic viability for local animal processing facilities while ensuring the health of workers.

Zumbach will travel to Louisville, Kentucky for the American Farm Bureau Collegiate Farm Bureau Meet during the AFBF 2022 Young Farmer and Rancher Leadership Conference, Feb. 25-28, 2022.
